The Last Lectureを読み終えました。You tubeで実際の講義の様子を見てすごく感動したのですが、内容を知って読んでも更に深く心に残る内容でした。残念ながら47歳の若さでお亡くなりになられたとのこと。筆者は癌という病気にかかったからこそ、残された時間を家族と過ごしてたくさんのメッセージや思い出を遺すことができた･･･と言っています。この本を読むことで、人生の時間は自分が思っているほど長くない、という事実に気付かされました。
今後の人生で何回も読むことになりそうです。かなりお勧め。日本語版、DVD付も出ていますが、１章１章が短く英語も読みやすいので原書もお勧めです。
I watched a You tube video that many English bloggers recommended. That was “The Last Lecture” by Randy Paush. The video was astonishingly touching because he tried to tell us how to make our childhood dream come true, and how to live better. In spite of being in the terminal state of pancreas pancreatic cancer, he seemed healthier than the audience. I’m sorry to hear that he passed away at the age of 47 last July. His life was short, but he accomplished his childhood dreams, helped other people fulfill their dreams. That was a great task which other people would not accomplish even if they live life to the fullest.
I wanted to understand him more profoundly, so I bought his book. Every chapter was inspirational, but there was one thing that resonated to me the most. “Don’t complain, just work harder.” I realized this is what I need to know on the most. He said if people took one-tenth the energy they put into complaining and applied it to solving the problem, they’ll they’d be surprised by how well things can work out. I know from my experience that complaint complaining makes a huge amount of negative energy, and it affects people around the whiner. It is necessary to vent frustrations sometimes, but we have to be careful not to make other people unhappy.
I like Randy’s way of thinking because he is super positive. This kind of person affects other people in a good way. I want to be a person who makes good energy and makes other people happy. This book affected my way of thinking. I’ll read this book countless times in the hope that I can utilize his knowledge to the fullest extent.
